Russian government has completely banned tobacco advertising

Russian government has approved the draft of the federal law providing a full ban on advertising of tobacco and tobacco products. This step will allow the country to join the Frame convention of the World Health Organization on struggle against tobacco. The interdiction should take effect within five years.
The convention has been adopted in May, 2003 and supported by 172 countries, including the European Union. Russia till now is among the countries which has not ratified the convention.

Annually from the diseases concerned with smoking die about five millions people worldwide. In Russia in 2006 about 400 thousand people have died for this reason. But harm of tobacco products is not reflected yet in consumption - cigarette manufacture in Russia constantly grows.

It is supposed, that within the framework of struggle against smoking in Russia, the project of National strategy on struggle against tobacco will be developed.
